The Day of The Bersanding Ceremony

Bunga Telur
( Bunga is "Flower" and Telur is "Egg")


"Bunga Telur" or Flower Egg...
fully boiled chicken egg wrapped decoratively.
This is the traditional Malay gift to the guests.
Flower Egg is a symbol of fertility and it is
hoped that by giving out the Flower Egg
the married couple would be blessed
with many childrens....

Berinai
(Dyeing fingers with henna...)


"Berinai" ceremony which is the dyeing
with henna of the fingers and the feet of the bride.
This is to shows that the girl just get married...


Berarak..."Procession"
(The bride and groom arriving in procession )



Kompang
(Hand drum...)




The group of mostly teenagers will
beat the kompang (hand drum) and
sing Quranic verses and good wishes...
during the arriving in procession
the bride and groom.

The Bersanding Ceremony



During the Bersanding ceremony, the bridal
couple will be seated on the Dias.
The newly-wed couple undergo the Bersanding
Ceremony. The bride and groom are treated as
King and Queen for a day...
The Bersanding ceremony is a way to 
show the married couple to all
the relatives, friends and guests
that the couple have now tied
the knot and now
husband and wife....

Right after The Bersanding ceremony

will attend a celebratory feasts called
the "makan beradab". This involves the 
bride and groom, seated with the
family and the VIPs at a special table for
the wedded couple by the special
dishes and decoration on the table.....

MALAYSIAN CULTURE......MALAY TRADITION AKAD NIKAH.....

THE AKAD NIKAH CEREMONY
(The "Akad Nikah" is actually a marriage contract by...
the groom agreeing to wed the bride based on...
the Islamic requirement and rules.)

The Groom arrives.....

The groom arrives for the "Akad Nikah" ceremony.....
with his family and relatives.....

The Betel Leaves

"Betel leaves" is a must, as it.....
constitutes and represent the essential item.....
of the Malay tradition.

Tepak Sireh
"Tepak Sireh" is a container.....
with an arrangement of betel leaves.....
(The groom family must bring this container...
"Tepak Sireh"
to the bride's house during the Engagement and
 the Akad Nikah ceremony.)


The Gifts 


The gifts from the groom to the bride 
must come together.....
when he arrives with his family during 
the "Akad Nikah" ceremony.....
After the "Akad Nikah" ceremony end up 
the bride's family.....
will exchange their gifts for the groom.


Signing Legal Documents.....
Before "Akad Nikah" (marriage contract)

The groom signs the marriage contract and.....
agrees to provide the dowry where.....
the mas kahwin (sum of money or gold jewelery).....
to the bride.


The Akad Nikah .....

Leading the ceremony will be.....
the Kadhi (a religious officer) from the Syariah Court.....

The bride must be nearby the groom during.....
the Akad Nikah ceremony.....


A Malay wedding proper begins with.....
the Akad Nikah where.....
the groom holding hand with.....
the bride's father or the representative.....
Kadhi (the religious officer)



Akad Nikah.....
This is the most and religious part.....
of the Malay wedding ceremony and.....
officially brings together a couple in marriage....
The ceremony is effectively a verbal contract.....
that takes place between the bride's father or.....
his representatives (Kadhi) and the groom.....
While holding hands a few simple words.....
from the groom which must.....
be heard by the elderly from the.....
three witnesses present.

After the Akad Nikah done.....
the groom giving a kiss to.....
the bride's father hand as his.....
respects to the father in-law.


The Bride hold up her hands...
having bless from ALLAH s.w.t (God)...
for the good future with her groom....
forever.

The groom read the marriage contract rules infront.....
the bride as a legal wife.....
that it is a serious responsibility.....
of the groom to look after.....
his bride and uphold.....
the sanctity of marriage.


The Bride signing the marriage contract....
as the couple agreed the responsibility

"Pertunangan" or Traditional Engagement Ceremonies
Pertunangan....
Malay word for engagement....
Unlike the knee-on-one-knee proposal.....
The Malay engagement is very much different.....

In Malay engagement ceremony.....
The young man's family and relatives arrived at .....
the girl's family home to inquire about her.

"Tepak Sireh".....is a brass container.....
Inside this "Tepak Sireh".....
with an arrangement of betel leaves.....
is a must...as it constitutes and represent.....
the essential item of the Malay tradition.....
for the Pertunangan......
(as well for the Wedding Day)


The engagement ring is a must item during.....
the engagement ceremony.....
from the young man to the girl.

Engagement Gifts.....

Some engagement gifts.....
Where the young man's family gave to the girl.....
End of the ceremony the girl's family.....
exchange their engagement gifts.....
to the young man's family.


Family and Relatives from...
Young man and Girl side...


Situation where the young man's family.....
and relatives at the girl's house.....
where they will have representatives.....
to talk on behalf of each of theirs family.....
Discussion lasted for about half an hour....
The date of the Wedding would be.....
tentatively agreed and fixed......
After discussion and agreements.....
have been achieved......

The girl waiting with patience.....

to put on the engagement ring.

As is the Malay custom.....
of the traditional engagement ceremony.....
is the putting of the engagement ring.....
on the would-be bride.....
by the future mother-in-law.



During a traditional engagement ceremony.....
it is the Malay custom that.....
the young man is not to attend.....
the ceremony.
