MALAYSIAN CULTURE.....MALAY TRADITION ENGAGEMENT....

"Pertunangan" or Traditional Engagement Ceremonies
Pertunangan....
Malay word for engagement....
Unlike the knee-on-one-knee proposal.....
The Malay engagement is very much different.....

In Malay engagement ceremony.....
The young man's family and relatives arrived at .....
the girl's family home to inquire about her.

"Tepak Sireh".....is a brass container.....
Inside this "Tepak Sireh".....
with an arrangement of betel leaves.....
is a must...as it constitutes and represent.....
the essential item of the Malay tradition.....
for the Pertunangan......
(as well for the Wedding Day)

The engagement ring is a must item during.....
the engagement ceremony.....
from the young man to the girl.

Engagement Gifts.....

Some engagement gifts.....
Where the young man's family gave to the girl.....
End of the ceremony the girl's family.....
exchange their engagement gifts.....
to the young man's family.

Family and Relatives from...
Young man and Girl side...

Situation where the young man's family.....
and relatives at the girl's house.....
where they will have representatives.....
to talk on behalf of each of theirs family.....
Discussion lasted for about half an hour....
The date of the Wedding would be.....
tentatively agreed and fixed......
After discussion and agreements.....
have been achieved......

The girl waiting with patience.....
sitting in her room.....
nicely wearing tradisional costume...
to put on the engagement ring.

As is the Malay custom.....
of the traditional engagement ceremony.....
is the putting of the engagement ring.....
on the would-be bride.....
by the future mother-in-law.

During a traditional engagement ceremony.....
it is the Malay custom that.....
the young man is not to attend.....
the ceremony.

(To whom it concern....my appreciation for using the information...Thank you)
